autumn food trends

Food trends to watch out for this season!

As we’re surrounded by the vibrantly coloured leaves and the cooler weather of the Autumn months, it’s a great opportunity to indulge in some of the finest savoury dishes and fresh seasonal root vegetables, that can only be appreciated during this season.

You’ll notice a lot of fine-dining restaurants in Leicestershire and around the country, embracing the season with updated menus that include all the seasonal favourites, and making the most of what is available during these months before winter kicks in!

Cinnamon flavoured everything

Cinnamon is a huge favourite during autumn, and due to its versatility, it can be used in sweet and savoury dishes. The reason why it is so fitting for this season is that it is actually from the bark of a tree, rather than a fruit or seed like most other spices.

Try: Cinnamon rolls, Apple cinnamon Blondie’s, Cinnamon bread

Traditional pumpkin

No autumn season is complete without bringing home a pumpkin. Whether you use it for carving into for the Halloween decoration or using the leftovers for a scrumptious pumpkin soup, there’s so much you can do with it.

Try: Roast pumpkin lasagne, pumpkin soup, sweet pumpkin pie

Purple potato

One of the latest trends you may see in supermarkets is the rise of the purple potato. Although they are a popular choice in other parts of the country, we’re beginning to see it a lot more in our dishes. The beautiful colour makes it an excellent addition to any feast you’re putting out this season!

Try: Roasted purple potato with garlic, rosemary and turmeric

Roasted vegetables

Roasted vegetables are a favourite no matter what time of year it is, but we’re more drawn towards them during the cooler months. Roasting vegetables is a great way to get the full sweet flavour, which you can’t really get from any other method.

Try: Blend any leftover roasted veg for a delicious creamy soup.
